When Hawk-Eye displays the speed of the ball which speed is it?

For example a bowler is said to be bowling at 80mph is this the speed when it leaves the hand or is it the average speed over a measured distance (from hand to ball pitching)? Given that the ball travels in a parabola there must be horizontal and vertical components of velocity and by the equations of a projectile the pitching distance can be calculated if one knows the release speed AND the angle of release AND the height of release - I dont see how Hawk-Eye can determine the angle of release.
