What determines a drugs' ability to produce withdrawal?

One typically sees withdrawal with benzos, opioids, or ethanol, for example, but this isn't possible with other drugs, such as H1 antagonists, proton pump inhibitors, or valtrex. I'm not sure why. What do "withdrawal-producing drugs" have in common?
