when an object is spun on an axis it creates a force directly outward from the axis of rotation, this is called centrifugal force. You can prove this for yourself by filling a bucket with water and attaching a rope to the handle and spinning the bucket in the air... even when the bucket is upside down the water doesn't come out. This is because of centrifugal force.
